2012 Programmed Humans

In the documentary Century of Self the first part outlines the works of Edward Bernays and how he is basically behind what we know today as consumerism or capitalism.

In the works of Freud, it is said that humans have a nature of violence or lashing out or an all-out hate towards each other. Governments feared this, attempting to come up with a solution that would not lead to a revolution or another civil war which is not good for the governments or the corporations in terms of being able to make money off of the populous. So what Bernays did was to develop the desires of man and direct them towards an object or an idea, thus effectively controlling man through controlling their desires, which in essence leads man in their ventures.

In the 30’s, 40’s and some of the 50’s, objects were sold through their functionality, their superior functionality was sold through the advertisements, boasting a better life than the competition or boasting better durability, or better quality in some form or another. This was not good for keeping the desires of man in control because in these advertisements the desire of the object was not supported or made, only the functionality of the object was supported, thus no desire was being created and thus the knowledgeable of Freud’s work realized that man was not being control and feared having them lash out in revolution.

Ads then became more about the want for the item because of this reason or that reason, it no longer became about  the quality or functionality of the item it became about creating the want for the item and not necessarily the need of the item. This was then to lead humans, attempting to suppress the negative animalistic nature that we are. What is interesting about this point is that the desire was there but it was undefined at the moment meaning we tell ourselves now that we need anti-acne cream, but who decided that we needed anti-acne cream, meaning that the desire was programmable and thus we are programmable as the desire, we are susceptible to what people tell us to what is influenced towards us and thus we are programmable.

No one said that we needed anti-acne cream or the phones or the movies or the entertainment, but we have accepted that as our desires , meaning we accepted and allowed ourselves to be programmed with these desires, showing that what and who we are is programmable. Take for example that it is not anti-acne cream, say it is a blade of grass, now if we were influenced that we absolutely needed that blade of grass, that that blade of grass would make our lives so much better than what they are currently, we would start to want that blade of grass and desire that blade of grass thus showing that we are programmable within/as desire.

Looking at the point from a larger scale, when we get into this world we are not programmed, it is only when we grow up in this system do we accept ourselves being told that we need these things that we have come to live and develop our world around. We become programmed into what makes us happy, thus some of us move towards appearance to make us happy and we diet ourselves and exercise, where others food makes them happy and they eat what they like, thus we decide on our programmed nature, and we are programmable.

An example of Consequence and Effect

At work today 2 people started `warring against eachother`. We play around at times at work to make each other laugh and establish workplace relationships so sometimes shit happens. It started off with a guy throwing a box of rice at another and causing him to almost crash his machine, supposedly, I understand this perspective. So the guy who got hit by rice ended up throwing a cookie at the other guy and it hitting him in the nuts. The guy who got hit by rice took the incident quite seriously and thought that by hitting the other in the nuts made him furious so he then too reacted in anger.

 At break, he was furious, he was exploding with violent words etc and scheming to get the guy back. After he vented for a bit I told him the best thing to do it to simply let it go. He said he wouldn’t. He was giving excuses on how his family is vengeful and how he thus must be like them and get his vengeance (this is paraphrasing). Each time he would come around I would continue with telling him to just let it go, calm down, breathe. He again continued with excuses and other shit, and at a point he was continuing with `it’s in my genes` type of deal, and I told him let it go, he replied with I can’t. I said yes you can, he said `it’s in my genes` etc etc, in this point I saw him for what he was accepting and allowing so I said yes you can you just don’t want to. He then smiled at me and told me to shut up in a manner of bubbliness lets call it. That is a cool point as in this moment he was honest with himself through knowing it and just not wanting to admit it so I got him in a way to admit that he just didn’t want to let it go, which I find cool as I have seen this before. I laughed in that moment like` hahah I caught you` and we both knew it.

There was a point where the guy he was pissed off at had his skids at the wrapping machine, and they were tall skids according to the angered person. He said he wanted to push them over yet had a second thought about it with `What would Paul say?` He then saw me working in the aisles and he decided against it which I found Awesome.

Through standing firm on my position of him letting it go and telling him to let it go whenever he would rant to me it had an affect on him. I did not accept his bullshit of anger and revenge, I told him continually to let it go and I stood on that point and repeated it not giving my acceptance of vengeance or revenge.

We can all have this affect on people through standing as the principle of doing what is best for all, we simply need to incorporate/live it into our lives, and soon enough it will have an affect. It would not have been as easy if I were to give any way to his vengeance like saying `fine do whatever you’re going to do just understand there will be consequences` = I allowed myself to give no opportunity to the idea of revenge, told him continuously to let it go and that had an affect = if I were to give way at any point he could have used that to justify himself for doing something quite possible stupid as a supervisor may have seen it and then get him in trouble, and as well the relationship between him and the other would have gone `sour` as we were all cool hanging out at break before this.

Crimes of Money and Media

Media And Money
All the media shown on television is controlled by profit and the amount of money associated with a company. The more money a company/corporation has the more airtime that add will get. Thus then there is a manipulation of what one see on the news and all of media in fact, through the application of profit and money. So within this what is shown on the media is all for profit, it will not show unbiased news clips or segments.

For example the starvation in impoverished nations occur DAILY, but the news does not report on this what so ever. I have not seen a segment on any popular news about the starvation that current exists in this world. A few news stories about lack of food, or war, or some saviour within an impoverished country but never the real starvation, never clips of children starving, never photos of villages that suffer daily, never reports or information of the condition why and the reason why, no investigation into starvation.

This is not shown because of the interest revolving around money and interests and obviously the interests of companies/corporations is more money.  They do not show these things because in fact the companies/corporations have created the starvation through creating false projections of business opportunities within the now impoverished countries, building the infrastructure there and then enslaving that nation to debt, usually making the head of the country incredibly wealthy at the same time thus creating enslavement within the head of the country as they would too end up living in poverty if they neglected the corporations money. This then takes away from the GDP from the country and places it within a wealthier country making the rich richer and the poor poorer. All the while the corporations are knowingly doing this. And with this they make a lot of money being able to influence what they want to influence such as media. So the media is completely influenced by profit, and if a corporation wants to spin a news segment or stop one from coming out all they have to do is use their influence/money.

Many are dying because of this accepted way of life, and yes these corporations knowingly participate in this for their own wealth and `happiness` ignoring the fact that they are creating the suffering first hand of these people, through debt enslavement.

This is a Crime! It will not be stopped until all money is moved around equally within an equal money system thus removing their power and influence. So a question here is that will there be penalties for their actions when a new system in brought in? This is a tough one. Ultimately they need to be forgiven for their crimes against humanity and we all must ensure that the destruction of life never occurs again as MILLIONS die a day from this needless suffering. I do not suggest they suffer the same fate. I would hold them from ever having any form of power or influence on anything ever again. I suppose making them do actual manual labour would help as they have done nothing in their lives other than move money around to get what they want, they would have to now work for it as the majority of the world has.

Activists do not take on this point. They are taking on the point of the suffering within impoverished nations, the cause and reason is not looked into. They accept the fact that people are suffering, and stop there. Not looking at the bigger issue does not solve the problem as the problem lays within the larger view which is the current economic system we have in place.
